The thought leaders of science know that materialism — the doctrine that the world is composed of mindless particles and impersonal forces — cannot be true. An increasing number of scientists are looking to find a place for spiritualism or consciousness in the make up the world, as another set of writers speak of the surging of human consciousness. Is a more spiritual world possible? We’ll never know if we only teach our children about materialism.

Filbert Bayi, an athlete with an “afro-hairstyle” and boyish looks, had grown up near Arusha on a farm in Karutu within sight of Mount Kilimanjaro. Bayi left school at age 17 and migrated to the capital Dar-es-Salaam. Bayi’s early running training was relatively crude. In the crowded, high-humidity capital, Bayi would pick out and sprint alongside a moving bus and rest when the bus was loading and unloading passengers—some form of interval training. In 1971 Bayi achieved a reasonably good 3min 52 seconds in the 1500m.

Beforetime, what they called in the future, the Younger World, we called those who saw the future, seers, but in the new world that world we looked into through dreams, and visions-the future, they now call them prophets. Time is of the past and future, the present is not time per se, it is the gulf, this is where we live, and sometimes we are allowed to have glimpses into time, this was the case of the few select of White Island, in those far-off prehistoric days, of yesteryear-my days. The question never arose: if we were living in the past, even those of us who saw into the future, but what about the present? Maybe this part of the equation does not exist? Only time will tell.
